Laced wheels revival on motorbikes

The trend was launched by Kawasaki with the launch of the W650 in 1999, since most manufacturers offer a neo-retro model in its range. To further enhance the vintage look, laced wheels are making their comeback.

In addition, laced wheels are providing with better mechanical features than solid alloy wheels combining hardness and flexibility. That’s why they continue to be used for off road motorcycles where constraints on wheels are higher and some manufacturers like Harley Davidson have never abandoned them.

Motorcycle wheel building is very similar to bicycle with a 3 step process : lacing, tightening and truing. However due to the size of the spoke, much shorter and higher hardness, efficient final truing has to be made manually on a truing bench.

That’s why  Mach1 has developed a new version of its truing bench MD2M. as well aa a more versatile  version of its manual lacer RAM.

MD2M is not only guiding the operator all along the truing process, It can also, with the torque control option, catch and record electronically tightening torque of all spokes to guaranty final quality of the wheel.
